I was awarded the Bartlett Promise Scholarship, which was generously funded by the architecture firm Jestico + Whiles. As part of this, I received mentoring and work experience where I completed different projects during my time at the Bartlett. Most recently, while at Jestico + Whiles, I had the opportunity to work on the redevelopment of a derelict building in Bethnal Green, East London. The site, on Vyner Street next to Regent’s Canal, sits at the heart of an area known for its vibrant art scene and creative studios spanning photography, architecture, film, and more.

Following the requirements for public & private space, I designed a private photography space for hire and an open community garden above accessed by a winding walkway that offers a mesmerising view of the canal and surrounding greenery.
You can take in the multiple views of East London while you walk through the foliage in the sun. The open glass floor ensures that anyone hiring the space below can access natural sunlight. With this design I was able to make it accessible, with the ramped walkway. I also used sustainable materials and retained most of the old building. I enjoyed creating these renders as I got more familiar with Sketchup, Enscape and Affinity software, and I liked the program of creating a community space to bring people together.

All-Vyner Garden is above the private photography studio, on the 1st floor. Here, you can see the full length of the curved pathway that stretches across the greenery connecting to the forest nearby. This garden can be enjoyed regardless of weather, due to the sheltered seating area. When it’s sunny outside, users, including those with disabilities can enjoy a winding walkway with a beautiful views of Regent’s Canal and Bethnal Green on the way to the garden.
67 Vyner Street rests adjacent to Regent’s Canal; the green space east of the building is undisturbed and allows for a pristine view from Pound Path that runs opposite the building along the canal. Here, you can see the full length of the curved pathway that stretches across the greenery. This garden can be enjoyed in the rain, due to the sheltered seating area.
